Pelorian Designed Website Example
Dick Bentley
Client’s Request:
Published author and college writing professor Dick Bentley had strong opinions about what his website should not be. He never enjoyed a website that was too cluttered, and so he requested a design that would offer all of his content in as simple a manner as possible. He requested:
- a listing of his books
- reviews of his books
- reprinting of articles about Dick as an author
- a listing of his courses
- a page about his Method Writing techniques
- a section with samples of his poetry and short stories
- a “free offer” page
- a video page
Designer’s Comments:
When I asked Dick about colors, font style and other design elements for his website, he immediately pointed to the cover of his book, Post-Freudian Dreaming – a simple dark background with a vivid painting and bright sans-serif text. Those elements became the theme for the website’s design. The website is on the older side, but simple enough in design so that it still functions seamlessly. There have been a number of updates, including the creation of a short YouTube video salvaged from a poor iPhone recording of Dick giving a reading in Paris. We’ve also created a Facebook account and a simple Facebook Book Page (update coming!) for Dick’s publications. On May 23, 2014, Pelorian Digital published Dick’s third book, All Rise.
